General Court of the EU appoints three new judges

The General Courts of the European Union has appointed Inga Reine, Fredrik Schalin and Peter Xuereb as judges from June 8 2016.

Reine has 18 years of legal experience.  She has worked as a lawyer for the Latvian National Human Rights Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as an advisor to the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe, and as head of the division at the Permanent Representation of Latvia of the European Union.

Schalin has a law degree from the University of Stockholm from 1991, and the University of Paris, Panthéon-Sorbonne between 1990 and 1994. He was a judge at the Gotland and Norrtälje District Courts, Svea Court of Appeal and worked as a legal secretary at the Court of Justice of the European Union. From 2012 to 2015, he was President of Chamber at the Södertörn District Court. He was also a lecturer at the University of Stockholm and Swedish Judicial Training Academy.

Xuereb worked as a legal advisor in the private sector at the Maltese Parliament between 1993 and 2016. He has also acted as the head and professor of the department of European and Comparative Law at the University of Malta and was president of the Mata European Law association.
