Mayer Brown appoints Gary Wilcox as partner in Washington

Mayer Brown has appointed Gary Wilcox as a partner in its tax controversy and transfer pricing practice in its Washington DC office.

Wilcox specialises is mergers and acquisitions (M&A), post-transaction integration structuring, transfer pricing and tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service. He is also a frequent lecturer and author on both controversy and corporate tax issues.

Before joining the firm, Wilcox served as the principal and co-leader of PwC’s tax controversy and regulatory services practice, where he advised clients throughout the audit management, appeals and resolution phases of IRS disputes. Before assuming this role, Wilcox also served as co-leader of PwC’s national M&A tax group (1997-2002), where he focused primarily on the structuring of cross-border corporate transactions.

With his previous experience as the IRS Deputy Chief Counsel from 2002 to 2004, Wilcox brings with him insights into tax policies at both the Department of Treasury and the IRS, in addition to his litigation experience, having served as litigation counsel in significant Tax Court cases.

Wilcox’s arrival is set to strengthen Mayer Brown’s strong tax controversy practice, which over the past few years, has added more than two dozen high-ranking government officials and notable lateral partners to its division.
