India appoints new chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes

Sushil Chandra has taken over from Rani A Nair as the chairman of the Indian government’s Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) as of November 1.

Chandra has worked within the Income Tax Department for several years, holding roles such as the principal chief commissioner and director general of income tax for Ahmedabad, commissioner of income tax (central) and director of income tax (investigation) in Mumbai, among others. Since December 2015, he has been a member of the investigation department in the CBDT.

Chandra will be responsible for developing and implementing taxpayer friendly measures and new initiatives in the area of e-governance.
