President Obama has nominated Cary Pugh to be a judge of the US Tax Court for a term of 15 years. She will replace Robert Wherry Jr, who became a senior judge of the court in April. Her appointment must be ratified by the Senate.

Pugh is a counsel in the Washington, DC office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Before joining the firm in 2005, she was special counsel to the chief counsel of the Internal Revenue Service and before that, tax counsel to the Senate Finance Committee.

Diane Kroupa retired as a judge of the US Tax Court on June 16 after 11 years.
