Mazars appoints partner in Leeds, UK

International accountancy and advisory firm Mazars has announced the addition of a new partner to its office in Leeds, UK.

Chloe Ellis joins the firm from RSM, where she led the corporate tax practice in Leeds and was also the national head of transactions tax. Prior to this, she spent six years as a senior manager with Grant Thornton.

Ellis will lead a 40-strong tax team in her new position at Mazars.

CohnReznick elevates three new tax partners

US-based advisory, assurance and tax firm CohnReznick has announced the promotion of three new tax partners as part of a wider round of partnership elevations.

The tax practitioners promoted include Yelena Belaks, Sean Granat and Daniel Levin.

New tax partner joins the team at Alston & Bird

The Washington, DC, office of Alston & Bird has announced the addition of a new partner to its tax practice.

Shawna Tunnell joins the firm from international firm Hogan Lovells, where she had been for more than 20 years.

Her specialities include advising clients on matters covering real estate investment trusts (REITs), private investment funds and joint ventures.

Andersen Global continues to expand its African presence

International tax association Andersen Global has continued its rapid expansion on the African continent with the addition of three new offices.

In the Republic of Guinea, it has signed a collaboration agreement with Nimba Conseil, a group founded in 2005 that includes Managing Partners Guy Piam and Aminata Bah, along with more than 10 tax and legal professionals.

In North Africa, the association has signed a collaboration agreement with MA Global Consulting in Casablanca. The Morocco practice is led by Managing Partner Mehdi El Attar and includes three other partners and nearly 30 professionals.

Finally, in Sierra Leone, Andersen has signed a collaboration agreement with Fornah-Sesay Cummings Showers & Co. The team there is led by Managing Partner James Fornah-Sesay, who is supported by more than 10 other legal professionals.

Marks Paneth welcomes new partner to financial services practice

Accounting, tax and advisory firm Marks Paneth has announced the addition of a new partner to its New York office.

Philip DeRosa joins the firm's financial services practice and brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the financial services sector, notably with alternative investment firms.

Prior to joining the team, he served as a managing director of EisnerAmper for more than five years and had previously held roles with international firms such as Deloitte and BDO.

Travers Smith appoints new head of tax

UK law firm Travers Smith has announced that it has appointed a new person to serve as the head of the firm's tax practice.

The new senior leader is Emily Clark, who has been with the firm since 1998 and served as a partner since 2011.

Her work is focused on fund formations across all alternative asset classes, including private equity and venture, credit, infrastructure and real estate.

Andersen welcomes new managing director in San Francisco

Andersen, the US-branch of international tax association Andersen Global, has announced the addition of a new managing director to its San Francisco office.

Edward Schulte joins the firm's alternative investment funds practice from KPMG, where he had been for more than five years. Prior to KPMG, he had held positions with both Rothstein Kass and EY.

He brings with him more than 18 years of experience in public accounting and specialises in the taxation of hedge funds.

Simpson Thacher welcomes Linklaters' former global head of tax

US firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has announced the addition of a new tax partner to its London office.

Yash Rupal joins the firm from Linklaters where he had previously served as the global head of tax and most recently acted as the firm's City tax head.

His work has seen him act for a broad range of domestic and international corporate clients, financial institutions, investment funds, hedge funds and asset managers on cross-border M&A, investment fund planning and tax planning matters.

Greenberg Traurig secures new London shareholder

US firm Greenberg Traurig has announced that it is adding a new shareholder in its tax and real estate practice in London.

Clive Jones rejoins the firm from DLA Piper, where he most recently served as the head of its UK tax practice.

His work is focused transactions, funds and investment structures, primarily in the real estate and financial services sectors.

Andersen Global continues expansion into Eastern Europe

International tax association Andersen Global has announced the addition of a new office in Bulgaria, its first in the country.

The group has entered into a collaboration with Kambourov & Partners, a full-service, Sofia-based firm founded in 1988 as a litigation firm.

The team includes 14 partners and has more than 30 legal professionals.

Andersen Global grows its presence in the Middle East

International tax association Andersen Global has announced it has expanded its presence in the UAE.

It has signed a collaboration agreement with Dubai-based Chartered House, a full-service tax firm founded in 2018 by Managing Partner Anurag Chaturvedi.

The firm includes nearly 20 tax professionals who cover a range matters that include both direct and indirect tax, international tax structuring, advisory and compliance services, as well as company formation and establishment, supporting global businesses looking to expand in the UAE.

Galvão Villani Advogados adds new partner and embraces new name

Brazilian firm Galvão Villani Advogados has welcomed a new partner to the team and with him a new firm name.

Carlos Eduardo Navarro joins the firm from Viseu Advogados, where he had been for more than five years and most recently served as head of tax and customs. Upon his joining, the firm was renamed Galvão Villani Navarro Advogados.

He brings with him more than 15 years of experience including structuring, notably for domestic and foreign start-ups, and business restructuring.

Hansuke welcomes former HMRC funds expert

London-based financial services consultancy firm Hansuke has announced the addition of a new senior consultant.

John Buckeridge brings with him more than 30 years of experience working in the tax sector, including 15 years at Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC) where he led policy on key developments to the taxation of collective investment schemes and offshore funds regime reform.

More recently, he served as a consultant with Eversheds Sutherland for more than four years.

BASEAK establishes tax practice in Turkey with new partner

Istanbul firm Balcıoğlu Selçuk Ardıyok Keki Attorney Partnership – the Turkish cooperating firm of Dentons – has announced the addition of a new tax partner to its practice.

Gökçe Sarısu Kanmaz joins the firm from EY, where she had been an associate partner for more than 12 years.

She brings with her more than 15 years' experience advising on tax disputes, tax risk management, tax audits, tax planning and structuring.

Mayer Brown adds new partner to Northern California office

US firm Mayer Brown has announced the addition of a new partner to its tax transactions and consulting practice based in San Francisco.

Sunghak 'Andy' Baik joins the firm from his last position with EY, where he served as a partner and financial services/international tax principal for a total of four years, his second stint with the firm having previously spent 18 years working in its New York, Singapore and South Korea offices.

He brings with him more than 25 years of experience advising on cross-border tax matters, with a focus on US, Asian and international tax systems.

Blank Rome welcomes new tax team to its New York practice

US firm Blank Rome as announced the addition of five new attorneys to its tax, benefits, and private client group based in New York.

Senior Counsel Irwin Slomka, Of Counsel Matthew Cammarata, Eugene Gibilaro and Kara Kraman, and Senior Attorney Michael Pearl all join the firm from Morrison & Foerster.

The team brings with it significant experience handling state and local tax controversies at the audit, administrative and judicial levels both in New York and nationwide.

RSM appoints new VAT director in Bristol, UK

Audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has announced it has added a new VAT director to its Bristol office in the UK.

Richard Holm joins the team from KPMG, where he was focused on advising on complex VAT and indirect tax issues.

He had been with KPMG for three years, having previously spent more than 15 years as an indirect tax senior manager with PwC.

New corporate tax firm launches in Peru

A new boutique corporate tax practice has been launched in Peru.

BZ Estudio is made up of founding partner David Zamora, as well as Patricia Pretel Tinoco and Herberth Bolívar Campana.

Zamora has more than 16 years' experience working in the legal market, providing tax advice for both national and foreign companies.

Buzzacott appoints new tax director to private client team

London-based accountancy firm Buzzacott has announced the addition of a new tax director to its private client team.

Rakesh Dabasia joins the firm from Rayner Essex, where he had served as a tax director for the past three years. He previously worked for the Royal Bank of Canada for more than 10 years in both Jersey and in London.

His practice specialises in the taxation of non-UK domiciled individuals and offshore trust structures.

New network formed between leading firms in South-East Asia

Malaysia firm Shearn Delamore & Co, Singapore-based Drew & Napier and Makarim & Taira S from Indonesia have announced they are coming together to create a new regional legal network named Drew Network Asia (DNA).

The member firms remain independent but the network operates as a 'firm of firms' to provide a seamless service in multiple jurisdictions.

Shearn Delamore & Co is one of the oldest and largest full-service firms operating in Malaysia, having been established in 1905.

Similarly, Drew & Napier was established in the city in 1889 and has more than 250 fee earners.

Although a more recent addition to the legal scene – being established by two Harvard graduates in 1980 – Makarim & Taira S has more than 60 fee earners offering a wide range of legal services.

Paul Weiss sees return of experienced tax partner

Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison has announced the addition of a new partner to its New York tax practice.

Robert Holo rejoins the firm, where he began his career as an associate, after more than 23 years with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.

He has extensive experience acting for banks, private equity funds and investors, among others, on tax matters in connection with acquisitions in cross-border mergers and other transactions.

True Partners Consulting adds senior manager

Tax and business advisory firm True Partners Consulting has announced the addition of a senior manager to the state and local tax team of its Dallas office.

Monty Tarbet joins the firm from Becton Dickinson in San Antonio, where he has served as a sales and use tax process team lead for more than four years.

He brings with him more than 13 years of state and local transaction tax experience in both public and private companies and has a strong track record that includes advising Fortune 500 clients with audit defence and refund recoveries.
