UK government appoints new secretary to the Treasury

Jane Ellison

Jane Ellison has been appointed to Financial Secretary to the Treasury, effective from July 15 2016.

Before being appointed to Financial Secretary, Ellison was the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health at the Department of Health from October 2013 until July 2016. She was elected as Conservative MP for Battersea in 2010.

Former Financial Secretary to the Treasury David Gauke served in the role from July 2014 to July 2016. Before Gauke, Nicky Morgan held the role for four months, from April to July in 2014. 

Ellison will be responsible for the strategic oversight of the UK tax system including direct, indirect, excise taxes, business, property, customs, environment and transport taxation, and personal taxation, as well as corporate and SME taxation, and European and international tax issues. 

Ellison's role includes being the departmental minister for HMRC, and being responsible for the Valuation Office Agency and the Government Actuary's Department.
