Raisa Alexakhina is a Deloitte CIS partner and the CIS head of legal services. She has been providing legal services since 1994.

Before joining Deloitte CIS, Raisa worked at another Big 4 firm. She has also served as legal counsel for a number of major manufacturing companies and for organisations engaged in international trade, and has extensive commercial litigation experience.

Over the course of her career, Raisa has led many complicated projects. She has gained wide-ranging legal consulting experience with large-scale Russian and international companies, and has dealt with many different corporate and commercial legal issues. She also chairs the Deloitte CIS internal technical group responsible for developing legal positions.

Raisa has unique practical experience in resolving tax disputes, and serves as the head of the Deloitte CIS tax dispute resolution group. She has represented clients in more than 400 tax disputes, obtaining favourable outcomes in all but one case.

Raisa earned a master's degree in law from the Moscow State Law Academy, and a PhD in financial law from the Academy of Problems of Security and Fundamentals of Legal Order. Raisa speaks English.

Vladislav Bozhenkov has 15 years of experience in providing legal services. Before joining PwC Legal in 2009, he was employed by the largest Russia-based law firm, providing tax law support to clients where his duties included defending client interests in court.

As a senior associate with the tax dispute resolution practice, Vladislav specialises in preventing tax disputes, assisting clients during tax audits and providing all types of services related to tax dispute resolution during pre-trial and trial stages.

Vladislav also has extensive experience in representing client interests in various disputes, including disputes related to the tax treatment of expenses for manufacturing companies, complex VAT issues, and transfer pricing claims, the latter of which have recently become a major issue in Russia.

Maria Mikhaylova is a senior associate with PwC Russia's tax dispute resolution practice.

Maria has more than eight years of experience in providing legal services. Before joining PwC Legal in 2010, she headed the legal affairs department at a trading company of a major multinational brewing holding.

Her area of responsibility included the organisation of full legal support for the company with respect to issues such as tax law. Maria negotiated the company's dealings with the Russian tax authorities during pre-tax dispute resolution and represented the company's interests in Russian arbitration courts at all stages of the judicial process.

Her main duties at PwC Legal include providing consultancy services for major Russian and foreign companies on tax issues, and representation of companies in tax disputes during the pre-trial stage and in court, including the representation of companies with respect to transfer pricing issues.

Mikhail has been a partner of KPMG Russia's tax and legal services since 2010.

Mikhail's background includes helping to draft the foundation of Russian tax law, as the head of the Taxation Policy Department with the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, along with many years representing Russian and multinational clients in various tax disputes, including administrative appeals and litigation.

Mikhail is the chairman of the Tax Law Expert Council of the Budget and Tax Committee of the Russian State Duma (Parliament), and has an active role in drafting tax legislation.

In addition, Mikhail lectures at the National Research University Higher School of Economics and regularly participates as a speaker at events organised by KPMG, and at external industry seminars.

Yana Proskurina has headed PwC Legal's tax dispute resolution practice in Russia since 2006. Yana has more than 13 years of experience of tax dispute resolution in a broad range of industries, including consumer and industrial product manufacturers and companies in the automotive, and oil and gas sectors.

She also has experience dealing with various tax issues, including disputes on complex transfer pricing issues related, among other things, to proper methodology for calculating market prices, VAT disputes, and disputes regarding the justifiability of expense deductions.

Yana leads projects for representing client interests in interactions with the tax authorities and during all stages of tax disputes. She helps develop the best possible strategy for handling each tax dispute to effectively defend client interests.

Yana's specialisation includes tax consultancy; representing clients in the pre-trial (administrative) stages of tax disputes by drafting responses to the tax offices' demands, drafting letters of disagreement (objections) to tax offices, involvement in the review of tax audit materials etcetera; and representing clients in arbitrazh (commercial) courts at all stages of court proceedings.

For many years, Sergei Voropaev has managed a sizeable team of tax lawyers, representing Russian and multinational clients from a variety of industries before Russian courts, in cases dealing with tax issues.

His team also specialises in providing advice on the most complex technical and risk management-related Russian tax and tax compliance matters. Sergei has personally represented clients in more than 400 Russian tax disputes, obtaining a positive outcome in more than 99% of cases.

Sergei has provided expert opinions and support relative to various Russian tax and legal matters in a wide range of international arbitrations and litigations. He also provides extensive support for his clients in their interactions with the Russian tax law enforcement authorities and in tax criminal proceedings.

Sergei has extensive Russian tax and criminal law-making experience. He has been a consultant for the Russian government and the High Court authorities on a number of tax issues. Sergei has also taught various tax law disciplines at Moscow State University.

Sergei is tax ethics officer for Deloitte CIS, and is a member of the Deloitte global tax ethics committee.

Sergei earned master's degrees in both law and international economics and completed a postgraduate programme in civil proceedings at Moscow State University.
