Robert has been a strategic adviser to businesses and investors in the Middle East for more than 20 years. He has advised on: how to do business in the Middle East region; assisting both Middle East investors wishing to globalise their activities and foreign investors coming into the region; developing tax policies and strategies; managing tax risks and maximising return by reducing tax liabilities.

Robert has advised both government and taxpayers on tax controversy matters and has project-managed litigation on behalf of his clients. Robert has served as expert witness for the state of Alaska on the taxation of hydrocarbon production in Abu Dhabi. He has advised a leading sovereign wealth fund in respect to litigation matters. He has served as a member of the UAE Free Trade Agreements negotiation team, with particular responsibility for matters relating to investment and dispute settlement. He represented the UAE as a member of the drafting committee of Sovereign Wealth Funds' International Working Group that concluded the Santiago Principles; and served as an appointed observer to the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds and sat on its subcommittee that dealt with issues related to the international investment environment and recipient country relationships.

Robert has been a senior adviser to various Abu Dhabi government investment institutions since 1994 and has spent more than 14 years with EY and Arthur Andersen, based in London, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Dubai, including serving as tax partner for the Lower Gulf.

Robert is recognised by Euromoney's Guide to the World's Leading Tax Advisers, and International Tax Review's World Tax global rankings, and he is chairman of the GCC branch of the International Fiscal Association. Robert is chairman of the board of directors of The Cragus Group Limited and divides his time between the Cragus Dubai and Kuwait offices.
