Sajjan Singh Yadav appointed as Delhi VAT commissioner

Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has appointed Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer Sajjan Singh Yadav as the new VAT commissioner for Delhi.

Until April, Yadav was CEO of Dehli Jal Board (DJB), a revenue management system, which will now be taken over by another IAS officer, Keshav Chandra.

Yadav was previously the secretary-cum-commissioner for food and supplies and was involved with the Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC).

The move has prompted tensions between Delhi's AAP government and Union governments, with the Union being accused of transferring the former VAT commissioner, Vijay Kumar, because of pressure from lobbyists. Kumar had positioned himself at the forefront of authority action to counter multinational corporate tax evasion.
