This intake represents the firm’s biggest partnership expansion since 2012, with 27 lawyers being promoted. Four tax lawyers have made the step up; two from the tax controversy practice and two from the tax transactions and consulting practice. The promotions will take effect from January 2016.

John Cise and Jonathan Hunt are the tax controversy lawyers being promoted. Both men are based in the firm’s Chicago office.

Hunt specialises in tax litigation relating to transfer pricing matters, including audit, administrative appeals, and cross-border transfer pricing of tangible and intangible property.

Steven Garden and Charles-Albert Helleputte will become partners in the tax transactions and consulting practice. Garden is also based in Chicago, while Helleputte works out of the Brussels office.

Garden advises on M&A tax issues, disposition of businesses and international tax planning, with a focus on international corporate structuring, offshore insurance, and cross-border transactions.

Helleputte joined Mayer Brown in 2007 as counsel and focuses his practice on the corporate and tax aspects of restructuring transactions and structured finance. With experience in tax litigation, indirect taxes and tax policy.
