Cherrington becomes global tax head at King & Wood Mallesons; Perez joins from Allens

Justin Cherrington has been named as the new global practice coordinator for tax of King & Wood Mallesons, which merged with SJ Berwin on November 1. Cherrington will be responsible for combining different business plans into a global strategy for the tax practice maintaining communication and coordination, and driving global business development initiatives.

Michael Perez, formerly at Allens, will join King & Wood Mallesons as a tax partner in the firm’s Melbourne office in January. He has advised clients such as Rio Tinto, Tabcorp, BHP Billiton, Ford and Shell, on matters including reorganisations, demergers, financing arrangements and M&A.

Perez also has expertise in stamp duty, GST and income tax, and has also managed complex tax audits and tax litigation.

Tim Sherman joined King & Wood Mallesons’s tax practice as a partner on July 1.
