János Kelemen is a partner at PwC Hungary and he is the leader of the firm's tax controversy and dispute resolution group in Hungary.

János joined PwC in 1990 and he has been a partner since 1999. Before joining PwC, János worked as a chief inspector at the Hungarian Finance Ministry's General Directorate of Supervision, now called the National Tax and Customs Office.

At PwC, Janos has gained much of his professional experience dealing with various tax issues of multinational companies operating in Hungary. In 1997 and 1998 he expanded his knowledge in transfer pricing and international tax planning on a secondment to the transfer pricing team of PwC's New York office. After returning to Hungary he set up international financing and licensing structures for approximately 100 multinational companies. From 2001 to 2008 János led the transfer pricing network of PwC in central and eastern Europe (CEE).

Between 2005 and 2010, János went on secondment and led the firm's tax and legal services practices in Slovenia and Croatia. Since returning to Hungary in 2010 he has been leading the tax controversy and dispute resolution team in Budapest.

Since 1990, János has participated in more than 200 tax controversies and disputes between multinationals and the Hungarian Tax Office and other revenue authorities in CEE. A number of the tax disputes were resolved at the various levels of administrative appeals, mediation and advance pricing agreements (APAs).

A significant number of controversies were resolved in a court of law and resulted in landmark decisions for multinationals, such as a case involving the use of investment credit for a pharmaceutical company and a corporate tax issue for a manufacturing company.

János is a registered and certified tax expert holding a master's degree and a doctorate in economics from the Janus Pannonius University in Pécs, Hungary.
