Helena Schmidt is a director at Deloitte Croatia, based in Zagreb.

Helena has more than 15 years of experience advising clients on corporate tax, VAT, customs and excise duty matters. Helena joined Deloitte Croatia in 2003. She previously worked as a tax consultant with other Big 4 companies.

Helena has acted as an adviser in numerous acquisitions and restructurings as well as in outsourcing and cross-border supply chain projects. She managed numerous tax litigation procedures and led the business process outsourcing department for Deloitte Croatia. Helena advises medium to large enterprises on VAT matters such as improving cash position by correct classification of revenues, advising on requirements for tax registration, increasing of the ratio of input VAT deduction and tax planning. Her clients include companies from different industry sectors.

She regularly authors articles for Croatian tax and accounting magazines and lectures at tax seminars. She is a member of the VAT Expert Group at the European Commission.

Helena holds a degree in economics from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics, and an EMBA from Cotrugli business school.
