Larry Langdon, former commissioner of the large and mid-size business division at the IRS in the US, has joined Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. Langdon will be a partner and director of the firm's global tax practice based in the Palo Alto office.
Before the IRS Langdon was vice president of tax, licensing and customs at Hewlett Packard. In 1999 he was leader of a team responsible for the management of the spin-off of Agilent Technologies, an $8 billion company. He believes his corporate experience will be of great value to Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw.
Langdon explained how his IRS term will help him at Mayer Brown, Rowe & Maw, particularly in the area of corporate relationships with the IRS. "During my tenure at the IRS we developed new dispute resolution strategies, including a fast-track appeals process which speeded up appeals from 750 days to just 75 days on average," he said.
The IRS recruited Langdon along with thirty-nine other corporate tax specialists to initiate a major restructuring of their operations. Langdon's particular specialty was in the area of corporate dispute resolution. "The ability to resolve IRS disputes quickly and efficiently is a major business consideration for our clients, even without considering the Sarbanes Oxley legislation," he said.
