Ethan Harris becomes new Shearman & Sterling partner

Ethan Harris, who became a counsel at Shearman & Sterling in March 2012, has now become a partner of the firm's tax group in its Washington, DC office.

His broad, transactional practice includes structuring and negotiating the tax aspects of domestic and international M&A, joint ventures and corporate spin-offs, as well as capital markets transactions. He also assists multinational clients with internal planning strategies and restructurings and audits and other tax controversy matters. In 2010, He was seconded to China Investment Corporation, the sovereign wealth fund of China, where he focused on the tax aspects of structuring investments.

He has represented Liberty Global in its pending issuance of tracking stock representing its Latin America cable operations and its acquisition of Virgin Media and the formation of a new UK public parent company; B/E Aerospace in its spin-off of its aerospace consumables and energy technical services businesses; SunGard Data Systems in its split-off of its information availability services operations and General Electric in its partial disposition of several power plants.
