Anjlika Chopra, Deloitte India, is a senior director with the indirect tax practice and has more than 16 years of experience in the field of indirect taxes, namely VAT, excise, customs, service tax and foreign trade.

Anjlika has worked with a leading litigation lawyer, before joining consultancy. She has handled advisory, litigation, including advance rulings at center and state levels, and compliance matters of companies across several industries such as oil and gas, telecommunications, IT, fast-moving consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, hospitality, entertainment, insurance and services.

Anjlika has also conducted VAT audits, health checks, and due diligences for several clients across India. Anjlika is a regular speaker at various forums including ASSOCHAM, CII, PHD Chambers of Commerce, OPPI and is also on CII's – Maharashtra Finance & Taxation Panel.

She has made representations on indirect tax and foreign trade matters before government authorities and trade bodies.

Anjlika has a bachelor's degree in law (LLB). She has also completed a post graduate diploma in business administration (finance).

Prashant Deshpande, Deloitte India, heads the indirect tax practice. He has 34 years of post-qualification experience.

Prashant helps clients deal with complex indirect tax laws and has a deep level of local expertise aligned to business perspectives and commercial needs. Prashant focuses on understanding business transactions in order to cater to the unique indirect tax issues faced in different industries including sunrise industries which have no legal precedents to follow. Prashant has served a wide spectrum of clients on the structuring of transactions, supply chains and business processes to optimise indirect tax incidence. He has also assisted clients with tax compliance and has provided litigation support.

Prashant is at the forefront of tax reforms including the proposed goods and services tax (GST) and has helped clients plan their business strategy as well as participating in several debates over the manner of introduction of reforms.

Under Prashant's leadership, the indirect tax team of Deloitte India has grown and is now comprised of experienced professionals spread across nine locations. The key strength of the practice is the professional knowledge and experience of its people and the processes being put in place for achieving efficiency in service delivery. The team provides meaningful solutions that are practical to implement in areas relating to supply chain tax optimisation, tax controversy management and transaction structuring through established and risk mitigated processes. Internal tools, processes and training have helped in efficiency and quality of service delivery. The practice prides itself on deep client relationships developed through a proactive approach of alerting them to changes, and analysing their implications.

MS Mani, Deloitte India, has more than 26 years of post-qualification experience, of which 14 years were in industry and 12 years have been in indirect tax consulting. He deals with indirect tax issues across a variety of sectors such as financial services, infrastructure, technology, manufacturing and consumer business. He has experience in handling both VAT/GST and customs and global trade matters.

He is based out of Mumbai and is a key member of the Asia Pacific indirect tax team, a group comprised of the indirect tax teams of Deloitte member firms in AP and a highly specialised, experienced, and integrated group bringing global and Asia Pacific expertise to clients.

He has assisted several multinational entities in their indirect tax planning and structuring in India from the inception stage. He handles compliance, advisory and litigation matters on an ongoing basis and interacts with tax authorities on a regular basis. He has also worked on various tax technology projects including ERP implementation projects and Sabrix/Vertex tools.

Mani has been recognised by International Tax Review as one of India's leading indirect tax advisers. He is a regular speaker at seminars and workshops and is actively involved with various training and knowledge management initiatives. In addition, Mani has contributed to several publications on indirect tax matters.

Mani has a master's degree in commerce and is qualified as a company secretary (CS) and cost and management accountant (CMA).

Muralidharan Ramaratnam, Deloitte India, is a senior director specialising in indirect taxes. Muralidharan has more than 35 years of post-qualification experience, including 20 years of specialisation in indirect tax matters. He has worked extensively in the area of indirect taxes both in industry and in tax consulting.

Muralidharan has worked in different areas of indirect taxes, including contract structuring from an indirect tax optimisation standpoint, conducting diagnostic reviews of the operations of corporates, and bid advisory. Muralidharan regularly appears before the adjudicating and appellate indirect tax forums to defend litigation matters of clients.

Muralidharan interfaces with the Central Board of Excise and Customs and various commissionerates to resolve the indirect tax issues of clients, and has also made several presentations on customs, service taxes and VAT, in various trade chambers. He contributes articles to financial dailies and is also a frequent participant on indirect tax issues on national television.

Saloni Roy is a senior director at Deloitte India's Gurgaon office, specialising in indirect taxes. She has more than 20 years' experience in tax and regulatory matters.

Saloni has dealt with matters pertaining to VAT, service tax, central excise duty, customs duty and foreign trade policy.
