Biography

Shigeki Minami's practice focuses on various forms of mergers and acquisitions, including statutory reorganizations, leveraged buy-outs, management buy-outs, joint ventures, strategic alliances and private equity investing. He is recognized as a specialist, especially in handling M&A matters from the aspect of tax affairs.

Mr. Minami is also an expert in general tax law matters. He regularly represents major Japanese and foreign companies in tax audits, tax disputes and competent authority procedures (including APA and MAP) with the Japanese and foreign tax authorities, and he has litigated tax cases in the National Tax Tribunals and the Japanese courts.

Mr. Minami serves as the Chair of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), and as a member of the Practice Council of International Tax Program, New York University School of Law.

Biography

Atsushi Shibata's practice focuses on trade, customs and international taxation.

He is active on new international trade forms, and offers services which look ahead for businesses after the COVID-19 disruption. His main business areas are tax-effective cross-border structures, investment into Asia from Western countries using regions like Singapore, Hong Kong and China, as well as ASEAN countries and Japan. Other special work includes dealing with EC trades, remote working, refund of VAT/customs duties, HS-number change and the practice of recalling/returning goods etc.

He is familiar with the finance practice as well. He is also the CEO of Bansei Holdings Co., Ltd. which owns Bansei Securities, a big giant of government bonds transaction, and Bansei Insurance, a pan-Asia bank which is a listed bank in Sri Lanka. Insurance and international taxation, minimum risk and maximum cash flow (international trade) are some of his new practices.
