Biography

Véronique's practice focuses on dispute resolution and litigation related to all types of taxes. With 24 years' experience, Véronique advises both Belgian and international clients on procedural matters and in handling both administrative and Court proceedings (such as complex transfer pricing cases). She is a guest lecturer at Ghent University.

Recent matters highlights

  • Assisted clients in the context of tax audits, including multilateral audits.

  • Negotiated settlements with the administrative authorities, provided assistance in dawn raids, e-auditing (together with forensic experts).

  • Handled litigation cases in all courts of Belgium (from the lowest to the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court) and assisted clients in developing a litigation strategy.

  • Carried out risk analyses and helped clients with voluntary disclosures.

Biography

With 34 years of experience in taxation, Ine leads the tax policy, tax dispute resolution and tax litigation practice at PwC Legal, an independent law firm.

She assists clients in relation with direct and mostly indirect tax litigation, tax dispute resolution and policy. Ine lectures at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (LLM International Tax Law programme) and is a guest lecturer at Liège University, Antwerp University and the VUB Diplomatic Academy.

Ine is the (co)-author of multiple articles and book chapters on the case law of the Court of Justice (also on the EU Charter of Fundamental rights) and regularly speaks on this topic (annual seminar on ECJ case law in VAT by the EU Commission with Vienna University).

Recent matters highlights

  • Ine has assisted Belgian and international clients with tax disputes and administrative and judicial procedures and defended their interests in all courts of Belgium (from the lowest to the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court), in other European countries, as well as before the ECJ).

  • She has filed complaints with the European Commission resulting in infraction procedures and changes in national legislations resolving litigations and has assisted clients in tax audits and negotiated settlements with the administrative authorities.

Biography

Astrid Pieron focuses on tax transactions and Transfer Pricing. She heads Mayer Brown's European transfer pricing centre and coordinates transfer pricing strategies and controversies in Europe. She participates in the EU Platform for tax good governance. Astrid previously served as a non-governmental member to the EU joint transfer pricing forum.

Recent matter highlights

  • We represented a toy manufacturer (and retailer/distributor) in the restructuring of its supply chain. The representation involved multiple functions and jurisdiction of the chain (Asia, EU, logistic, sourcing, distribution, etc.).

  • We assisted several groups in the preparation of a BEPS-compliant European Master File, as well in the preparation of multiple country files across European jurisdiction.
