Afonso Arnaldo, Deloitte Portugal, is a partner in the firm's indirect tax group, which was the first indirect tax practice group formed in Portugal. He has a law background and 21 years of professional experience in indirect tax, both in Portugal and abroad.

He is responsible for coordinating tax consultancy projects for several entities concerning VAT, customs, and excise duties matters to assist clients in planning and structuring their operations and optimising indirect taxes.

Afonso is also specialised, from an indirect tax perspective, in business model optimisation (BMO) services, offering insights into how multinational companies should integrate their operational and tax planning in a scalable and sustainable way in order to help business leaders make more effective decisions on an after-tax basis.

In 2014, Afonso was nominated by the Portuguese government as a member of the Portuguese commission which reviewed the country's green taxes.

António Beja Neves, Deloitte Portugal, is the leader and founder of the firm's indirect taxes group, which was the first indirect tax practice group created in Portugal. He first started helping clients with VAT when it was introduced in Portugal in 1986.

António has a business management and chartered accountant background as well as 36 years of professional experience in indirect tax, both in Portugal and abroad.

António is also responsible for the coordination of tax consultancy projects for several entities concerning VAT, customs and excise duties and assisting clients in planning and structuring their operations to optimise indirect taxes. Susana Claro is a partner of PwC Portugal, Angola and Cabo Verde and leads its indirect tax practice (VAT, excise and customs).

She advises local and multinational corporations on national and cross-border transactions regarding VAT, customs and excise duties, with a particular focus on the structuring, implementation and optimisation of their processes, on a global basis, and regarding consumption tax in Angola.

Susana is responsible for providing tax consulting services, assisting clients with their day-to-day matters (including compliance and reporting), and also for the assistance provided during tax inspections and reimbursement claims.

She is a specialist, from an indirect taxation perspective, in the following business sectors: financial services (banking and insurance), construction and real estate, and consumer business.

She has 19 years of professional experience in taxation, a background in business management and a post-graduate qualification in advanced accounting and tax. Susana has concluded the exams for admission to the Portuguese Institute of Statutory Auditors. Susana is a trainer certified by the Professional Employment and Training Institute.

Since 2009, Susana has been an arbitrator at the Portuguese Court of Tax Arbitration (CAAD), and is commonly involved in decisions concerning tax matters.

Susana collaborates in executive master's and post-graduate courses as a lecturer in indirect taxation, and participates as a speaker in several courses, seminars and conferences. Eduardo Ferreira Gomes, Deloitte Portugal, is an indirect tax associate partner with 17 years of professional experience in indirect tax in Portugal, specialising in domestic and international VAT advisory services. His background is in business management.

Joana Nunes dos Reis, Deloitte Portugal, is an indirect tax associate partner.

She has a law background with a post-graduation in tax, and has 18 years of professional experience in indirect tax in Portugal, specialising in domestic and international VAT advisory services to local and global clients.

Joana coordinates VAT consultancy and compliance projects, and assists clients planning their operations to optimise VAT.
