Bowen takes over as Australia's Treasurer

Wayne Swan has been replaced by Chris Bowen as Australia’s Treasurer, or finance minister. Swan resigned yesterday after prime minister Julia Gillard was defeated by Kevin Rudd for the Labor Party leadership.

Bowen was responsible for the Australian tax system as the assistant treasurer between 2007 and 2009. In his first interview as Treasurer, Bowen, said the new government remained committed to carbon pricing.
