Tax partner West takes Steptoe leadership

There is a new executive chairman at Steptoe & Johnson. Phil West, who heads the firm’s tax group, took over on January 1 2014 from Roger Warin, who now becomes chair emeritus.

The Steptoe partners also re-elected Phil Malet as vice-chairman of the executive committee.

West joined Steptoe in 1993 as of counsel. He moved into government for four years, including three as the Treasury Department’s senior international tax lawyer, before returning to Steptoe as a partner in 2002.
