Santosh is a partner in the Indirect Tax Services practice of KPMG in India based in Mumbai. He is a commerce and law graduate from Mumbai University and an associate member of The Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India. He has more than 25 years of hands-on experience in the areas of indirect taxes, finance and commercial functions.

He has worked in local corporate as well as multinational companies in the fast-moving consumer goods and engineering sectors for more than 13 years. His areas of specialisation are Customs, central excise, service tax, VAT / sales tax, and stamp duty.

He has been involved in tax planning, legal aspects and compliance issues apropos indirect taxes. He has personally handled complex issues ranging from material procurement to the launching of finished products, including commercial, logistics, costing and pricing aspects. Santosh played a key role in the streamlining and development of internal control systems and management information systems to ensure effective compliance and management of tax issues.

As a tax consultant, he has been advising various multinational clients on indirect tax implications, tax planning and compliance aspects concerning the setting up of business operations in India. His advice covers in-depth legal aspects touching sales tax, VAT, works contract tax, lease tax, profession tax, octroi and stamp duty. He has also been involved in various advisory assignments for multinationals as well as Indian companies for business restructuring in the context of indirect tax laws. He has been handling the assignments of review of indirect tax management, tax planning and compliance of various multinational clients. He helped various corporations in smooth transitioning from the erstwhile sales tax regime to the VAT regime including conceptualisation of the tools, methodologies and the computerised systems / worksheets for carrying out impact analysis and implementation assistance.

He has also been involved in the VAT and GST initiative in India. He has been in close interaction with various state governments and industry for GST implementation, strategies and methodologies.

Santosh has also been involved in the M&A – tax advisory services for tax efficient structuring of M&A transactions including due diligence reviews from indirect tax perspective.

Santosh also heads the indirect tax compliance outsourcing practice at KPMG in India.

Santosh is a frequent speaker in various seminars and has also authored various thought leadership articles in various publications.

Santosh was voted as one of the 10 most admired indirect tax advisers in India in a survey conducted by International Tax Review in early 2011. Santosh was also nominated as one of the topmost indirect tax leaders in India by ITR in 2013.

Prashant Deshpande heads the indirect tax practice of Deloitte India. He has 32 years of post-qualification experience.

Prashant helps clients deal with complex indirect tax laws and has a deep level of local expertise aligned to business perspectives and commercial needs. Prashant focuses on understanding business transactions and flows to cater to the unique indirect tax issues faced in different industries.

Prashant has served a wide spectrum of clients for structuring of transactions, supply chains and business processes to optimise indirect tax incidence. He has also assisted them with compliance with tax laws and has provided litigation support.

Prashant is at the forefront of tax reforms including the proposed goods and services tax and has helped clients plan their business strategy and has also participated in several debates over the manner of the introduction of reforms.

Under Prashant's leadership, the indirect tax practice of Deloitte India has grown and is now comprised of experienced professionals spread across nine locations. The key strength of the practice is the professional knowledge and experience of its people and the processes being put in place for achieving efficiency in service delivery. Internal tools, processes and training have helped in efficiency and quality of service delivery. The practice prides itself on deep client relationships developed through a proactive approach of alerting them to changes, and analysing their implications.

Pratik is the North India head of indirect taxes at KPMG in India. He has more than 14 years of experience in advising clients on the entire gamut of indirect taxes including service tax, excise, VAT/CST, customs and foreign trade policy (FTP). He leads the GST initiatives of KPMG in India and is helping several large companies in assessing the impact of the proposed GST reform on their business and transitioning into the new regime. Before joining KPMG in India in 2006, Pratik worked with Arthur Andersen and EY in India.

Pratik has been involved with several Indian and multinational corporations and advises them on indirect tax planning, dispute resolution and policy related issues. He has also been involved in several greenfield projects; identifying planning opportunities including possible strategies for building an effective supply chain model from an indirect tax perspective. He has advised large manufacturing companies in areas relating to project specific tax incentives sought from central and state governments.

Pratik was involved in the VAT implementation of two Indian states, which included drafting the legislation, conceptualising the overall administrative framework and providing post-implementation training to VAT officials. He is actively engaged in tax advocacy and frequently interacts with Indian tax regulators. He also plays an active role in formulation of the GST policy and is actively consulted by industry and industry associations.

Pratik is one of KPMG in India's spokespeople and frequently interacts with media. He regularly participates in public debates and discussions on indirect tax issues and is a member of tax committees of leading trade bodies.

M S Mani has more than 24 years of post-qualification experience, of which 14 years were in industry and 10 years have been in indirect tax consulting. He deals with indirect tax issues across a variety of sectors such as financial services, infrastructure, technology, manufacturing and consumer business. He has experience in handling both VAT/GST and Customs/global trade matters.

He is based out of Mumbai and is a key member of Deloitte's Asia Pacific Indirect Tax team, a group comprised of the indirect tax teams of Deloitte member firms in Asia Pacific and a highly specialist, experienced, and integrated group bringing global and Asia Pacific expertise to clients.

He has assisted several multinational entities in their indirect tax planning and structuring in India from the inception stage. He handles compliance, advisory and litigation matters on an ongoing basis and interacts with tax authorities on a regular basis. He has also worked on various tax technology projects including ERP implementation projects and Sabrix/Vertex tools.

Mani has been recognised by International Tax Review as one of India's leading indirect tax advisers. He is a regular speaker at seminars and workshops and is actively involved with various training and knowledge management initiatives. In addition, Mani has contributed to several publications on indirect tax matters.

Mani has a master's degree in commerce and is a company secretary and cost and management accountant.

Sachin is the chief operating officer – tax and national head of indirect taxes at KPMG in India. He specialises in VAT, and Customs and excise laws, and has more than 32 years' experience in virtually all indirect taxes in the country including through spells at EY and PwC.

He was involved in the framing of VAT policies in India in 2005 and is now being consulted by the government and industry on the proposed implementation of GST in India.

He is the co-chairman of GST Task Force, FICCI. Sachin has been recognised as one of the top 10 most admired Asia-Pacific indirect tax advisers by International Tax Review. He is also a member of the board of directors of KPMG in India.

Saloni Roy is a senior director at Deloitte India's Gurgaon office, specialising in indirect taxes. She has more than 20 years' experience in tax and regulatory matters and is responsible for Deloitte India's indirect tax practice in the National Capital Region.

Saloni has dealt with matters pertaining to VAT, service tax, central excise duty, Customs duty and foreign trade policy. Saloni's specialty has been in advising clients on tax implications, structuring of transactions for tax optimisation, implementation, and representation before tax authorities as well as litigation.

Krupa Venkatesh is a Deloitte India senior director, indirect tax. She is based in Bangalore and is responsible for both the Bangalore and Chennai indirect tax practices of Deloitte India. Krupa was one of the first professionals to join the indirect tax team in 2001. Krupa was employed by the Government of India in the Customs and Central Excise Department for 10 years before joining Deloitte India.
