Americas Awards winners revealed

Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom has won the award for North America tax firm of the year at International Tax Review's fourth annual Americas Tax Awards. Taxand, a global network of leading independent tax firms, won the award for Latin America tax firm of the year.

Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom has won the award for North America tax firm of the year at International Tax Review's fourth annual Americas Tax Awards. Taxand, a global network of leading independent tax firms, won the award for Latin America tax firm of the year.

The Editor's Choice Award, for the person or organisation that has made a particular impact on tax, went to Congressman Charles Rangel, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee of the US House of Representatives. He was the only individual winner of the night.

Ernst & Young won six awards, the most by any firm, including the award for North America transfer pricing firm of the year and North America indirect tax firm of the year.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, which was named Latin America transfer pricing firm of the year, and Baker & McKenzie came next with five awards. .

Apart from indirect tax, other new awards this year went to Goodmans for North America capital markets tax transaction of the year; Cravath Swaine & Moore for M&A tax team of the year in North America; Machado Associados, which won the equivalent award in Latin America, Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, the winner of the North America restructuring tax firm of the year and Baker & McKenzie, which was the top firm for restructuring tax advice in Latin America.

Fifty six awards were presented to firms that demonstrated excellence, including innovation and an ability to deal with complexity, and strength in depth in each category, in 14 jurisdictions or US metropolitan areas:

Argentina, Brazil Canada Chile Colombia, Mexico, Peru, US: Chicago, US: Houston & Dallas, US: Los Angeles, US: New York, US: San Francisco Area, US: Washington, DC and Venezuela.
