Greenwoods & Freehills and Shaddick & Spence, two of the leading tax advisory firms in Australia, are to merge on June 1. The announcement from the two firms said the move will create the largest specialist tax firm in Australia, with more than 60 tax professionals. Shaddick & Spence is the Australia member of Taxand, a global alliance of independent tax advisory firms.
The announcement added that Greenwoods & Freehills, which will be the name of the new firm, will offer top tier corporate clients a quality and highly differentiated alternative to the big-four accounting firms, with a focus on M&A, cross-border, tax disputes and general corporate tax.
• Stephen Hoffman, former vice president of global taxes at Gillette, has joined Alvarez and Marsal as a managing director. He led the Gillette tax team during Procter & Gamble's purchase of the company in 2005.
