The judges of the US Tax Court have elected Michael Thornton as their new chief judge. He will serve a two-year term beginning on June 1.
Thornton has served as a judge of the US Tax Court since March 8 1998 after being appointed by then President Bill Clinton for a 15-year term. Previous roles include tax counsel for the US House Committee on Ways and Means, deputy tax legislative counsel in the Treasury’s Office of Tax Policy and law clerk to the chief judge of the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
