The tax team at DFDL consists of tax lawyers, transfer pricing specialists and international tax advisers. It provides tax services including tax advisory, tax compliance, transfer pricing and customs advisory. It is experienced in handling restructurings, energy projects, financing transactions and non-profit reorganisations. Thida Aye is the key legal partner in the team.

One recent example of the firm’s work saw it advising a client in payment restructuring in Myanmar. It assisted the client in navigating the payment flow given the Central Bank of Myanmar’s restrictions on offshore remittances and the tax implications of the proposed payment structure.

Jean Loi is the key practitioner in VBD Loi’s tax team. It provides tax services including corporate tax structuring, cross-border tax planning, tax compliance, tax disputes and tax due diligence in various industries and sectors. It continued preserving full-scale operations in Myanmar and providing uninterrupted support to clients under various challenging situations in the market.

Loi recently led the team and provided tax advice on the restructuring of a client in Myanmar. The work included reviewing options for the restructuring of the client’s factory and advising on the options to optimise related costs and cash-out from a tax perspective.

The team added Ei Ei Chaw as senior tax manager, and Nan Sam Kham Mary as senior tax consultant for China desk in 2023 to strengthen its tax practice. In the same year, a senior tax manager Nway Nway Aung left the firm and relocated to Singapore.

Client feedback

“They know how to build strong relationships and provide open communication with their clients. VDB Loi delivers the best quality to us and we are very satisfied with the results.”
