The firm recently assisted AstraZeneca with a challenging tax issue on the treatment of mandatory ‘rebates’ for the purposes of the VAT paid to public medical and health insurance funds by Greek pharmaceutical businesses, if any, the National Organisation for the Provision of Healthcare Services, and medicinal products under prescription. The team also advised Hellenic Petroleum in a dispute involving sophisticated and difficult tax legal problems relating to corporate income taxation stemming from a number of accounting changes, including, for example, the non-deductibility of intangible asset depreciation.
