In a move to expand its tax controversy practice, McDermott, Will & Emery has raided Miller & Chevalier in Washington, DC.

Last Wednesday McDermott, Will & Emery announced the arrival of tax partners Jean Pawlow and Elizabeth Erickson from the rival law firm.

Stephen Wells, head of McDermott's Washington, DC tax team, was delighted with the expansion. "Jean and Elizabeth add significant experience and depth to our tax controversy group, as well as our federal tax practice generally," said Wells.

Pawlow has been involved in significant tax litigation matters for nearly 20 years, representing clients in disputes before the US Tax Court, the Court of Federal Claims, US District Courts, US Courts of Appeal, the Internal Revenue Service Appeals Division and the IRS National Office.

Erickson has represented clients in tax disputes relating to the deductibility of settlement payments and disputes over advance pricing agreements.

Last week the firm also promoted three tax associates in the US to partner-level: Joseph Selby in Boston, Kevin Batson in Chicago and Justin Mead in Miami.
