Doug Shulman will be the next commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) if Congress accepts his nomination by the president.
The new IRS chief is vice-chairman of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, which is the regulator for all securities firms in the US. Earlier in his career, he served as senior policy adviser and later chief of staff of the National Commission on Restructuring the Internal Revenue Service, which reported in June 1997.
The IRS has had two interim leaders since Mark Everson stepped down as commissioner in April to become president of the American Red Cross.
