Brazil-based Lorena Gaiotto won the ITR Americas In-House Indirect Tax Leader of the Year award for a very good reason.
Gaiotto applied her tax nous and the understanding of the commercial realities of the share-riding economy to convince the Brazilian government to exempt Uber trips from that country’s VAT.
She celebrated the award win in an effervescent post on LinkedIn while also thanking her tax division colleagues for their support.
“What started as a complex policy question became a mission: to ensure that innovation and regulation could work hand-in-hand to create fairness and opportunity for drivers,” Gaiotto said.
“It required persistence, dialogue, and above all, collaboration across disciplines. My deepest thanks to the policy team for their dedication and partnership.”
