José Manuel joined Deloitte Abogados in 2014, as a partner in the VAT, duty and indirect tax sector, enhancing at the same time our advisory services in the Valencia community.

A graduate in law from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, José Manuel is a state tax inspector.

He formerly developed his career at the Tax Government between 1984 and 2008, where he held several important positions such as the deputy director of VAT (from 2000 to 2004), becoming the director general for taxation (from 2004 to 2008). He subsequently entered Arco Abogados y Asesores Tributarios as a tax partner, where he developed a successful career in tax advising.

He has broad teaching experience in centres like Escuela de la Hacienda Pública (Public Finance Minister School), Centro de Estudios Universitarios (University Studies Centre), Fundación Universidad – Empresa de la Universidad de Valencia and Estema (postgraduate centres, both affiliated with the University of Valencia). An author of numerous books concerning Tax Law, José Manuel is also a member of the Institutional Advising Board and Coordinator of the Indirect Tax Unit at the AEDAF (Spanish Association of Tax Advisers).

José is a director within the international tax and global transfer pricing services department at KPMG in Spain.

He holds a law degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and a master's degree in financial and tax law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Centro de Estudios Financieros (CEF).

José joined KPMG in 2005. Since then he has worked exclusively with the international tax and global transfer pricing services team.

He has more than 10 years of experience in tax planning, analysis and documentation of intercompany transactions for major multinational corporations as well as in international investment projects for Spanish companies.

He also has led many projects related to tax audits and dispute resolution in transfer pricing issues for national and international companies. Additionally, he has helped companies negotiate advance pricing agreements (APAs) and coordinate MAPs.

José has also broad experience leading projects on the design and implementation of the structure of charges in relation to intangible assets licensed to multinational Spanish companies, some of them listed companies.

He is a member of KPMG's value chain management (VCM) global group and a member of the firm's global TP dispute resolution team (GTPDR).

José is a professor, teaching the master's course in international taxation at the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economia (ISDE), as well as taxation courses at the Centro de Estudios Financieros (CEF). He is also a regular speaker at international tax and transfer pricing seminars.

José is the author of two articles in CEF's International Taxation handbook: 'Economía Digital y el entorno BEPS' (Digital Economy – 6th ed. 2015) and 'Fiscalidad del comercio electrónico. Especial referencia a la atribución de beneficios a establecimientos permanentes' (E-commerce – 4th ed. 2010).

Julio César García is a tax litigation and EU tax law partner at KPMG. He also has broad expertise in corporate taxation.

He has a degree in law from UAM Madrid and a master's degree in tax from Garrigues Studies Tax Centre. He is also a member of the Madrid Bar Association.

Before joining KPMG, he had been working for more than 10 years in the tax litigation department in Garrigues.

Since he joined KPMG in 2008, Julio César has reinforced the KPMG tax litigation and EU tax law team, and is now the KPMG tax litigation and EU tax law leader in Spain.

He has extensive experience gained by assisting a large number of clients on a wide range of tax litigation issues, including EU tax litigation. Julio César has represented some of the largest Spanish IBEX-35 companies and most relevant associations before European courts and the EU Commission. He also holds nearly 20 years of extensive experience dealing with state and local tax controversies at the audit, economic, administrative and state court levels, including National Apellate Court, Supreme Court and Constitutional Court.

He is also an expert on the taxation of regulated industries (telecommunications and energy).

Julio César has been a professor of taxation at different institutions such as Garrigues Studies Centre and Madrid Bar Association as well as for several courses and lectures in various specialised forums like IE and APD.

He has also written many articles on tax litigation, EU tax law and corporate taxation.

Ricardo Gómez-Acebo, lawyer and economist (Spanish Universities) and MPA (Harvard University), has been a partner in Deloitte Abogados since 2005. Previously he was with the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Spanish Central Government, where he held the position of finance inspector.

Ricardo is in charge of the Tax Professional Committee of Deloitte Abogados and advises his clients mainly in the corporate and international taxation areas, as well as on litigation and procedures before the Tax Administration. His main clients are large companies in the energy, infrastructure, real estate and services industries.

Ricardo is a member of the Tax Commission of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisation; of the Board of the Impuestos y Competitividad Foundation, promoted by the eight largest Spanish tax firms; of the Madrid Economists Association and of the Spanish Official Auditors Register (ROAC).

He is very active in terms of publications and teaching. In this sense, he is co-director of the four editions of the book Jurisprudencia Tributaria Básica. Additionally, he is a lecturer in the master's programme in taxation at ICADE and, formerly, at CEU and the Institute for Fiscal Studies. He is also a regular speaker at seminars organised by different institutions including: the European Commission, the World Bank, the Inter-American Bank for Development, the Institute for Fiscal Studies, and APD or Expansion.

Javier Pelegay is a Deloitte Spain tax partner based in the Barcelona office. He joined Deloitte in 2000 and has more than 20 years' experience in tax services. In 2012, he was promoted to the position of Deloitte global leader for tax controversy management.

Javier has wide-ranging experience serving international clients and their subsidiaries in the Catalonian region, including tax due diligence services. Although his experience covers a wide range of sectors and industries, he has mainly focused in the automotive, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors which are very prominent in the Barcelona area.

He has extensive specialisation in inbound investments (for both US and EU countries), local and international restructuring engagements, and due diligence and tax planning acquisition engagements.

Javier holds a law degree from Universidad de Barcelona and a master's in taxation from Abad Oliba, Barcelona.

He has been a member of the Barcelona Bar Association since 1986 as well as an elected member of the tax commission. In addition, he is a member of the editing council of the publication Fiscal al Día and a member of the Spanish Tax Association.

Alejandra Puig, Deloitte Spain, is a lawyer and member of the Madrid Bar Association. She specialises in representing clients before the Spanish tax authorities and in coordinating complex tax audits for multinational corporations. Alejandra also has significant experience in handling negotiation for complex tax disputes.

Alejandra regularly represents clients at all stages of the dispute process, including litigation before the Spanish Supreme Court and supporting and negotiating settlements.

She helps clients to efficiently resolve their tax dispute, assisting to negotiate favourable settlements with the tax authorities or, when necessary, by bringing appeals to the courts.

For more than 20 years, Alejandra has represented clients in a variety of industries, including financial services, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, media, and retail.

Alejandra also has significant experience in Spanish penalty procedures and has both spoken and written extensively with respect to numerous Spanish procedural issues.

Luis Enrique has been a partner of Deloitte Abogados (Deloitte Spain) since 2012. He coordinates the tax controversy and litigation specialised area for the northwest region of Spain.

Enrique Seoane Smith has been a partner in the tax department of Deloitte Spain since 2014.

He has extensive professional experience developed in Agencia Estatal de Administración Tributaria (State Tax Administration Agency), where he held the position of deputy chief inspector in Unidad Provincial de Inspección de Barcelona and Unidad Regional de Recaudación Ejecutiva de Cataluña.
