Norton Rose Fulbright has appointed Robert Kovacev tax controversy partner in its Washington DC practice.

Kovacev was a partner at Steptoe & Johnson for almost five years. He represents clients in high-profile disputes with the IRS, particularly in cross-border transactions, transfer pricing and questions of substance. His speciality is the high-tech sector and the US R&D tax credit scheme, as well as robotics and artificial intelligence (AI).

Kovacev developed his edge as a litigator at the tax division of the US Department of Justice, where he worked from 2006 to 2013. As a senior counsel, Kovacev worked with the large business and international (LB&I) division of the IRS to shape its litigation strategy.
