Americas Tax Awards winners announced

Find out who took home the trophies from International Tax Review's Americas Tax Awards in New York on Thursday night.

Deloitte won the Americas Tax Firm of the Year at International Tax Review's Americas Tax Awards, which were presented at a dinner in New York on Thursday night before an audience of more than 220 tax advisers, lawyers and their clients.

The firm was judged to have shown the best strength in depth in its international tax services in Latin and North America between June 2012 and May 2013. The winner of the category for Latin America Tax Firm of the Year was PwC and the same prize for North America went to McDermott, Will & Emery.

The shortlists were unveiled in early August.

Ten deal awards, in addition to those for national tax and transfer pricing firms, were features of the awards this year. If any firm worked on any of aspect of the transaction selected as the leading matterh in that area, they received an award.

Davis Polk & Wardwell worked on two of the deals selected - the high yield issuance by Linea Amarilla, which won the capital markets deal of the year, and the sale to Comcast of GE's remaining 49% stake in NBC Universal, which was picked out as the top deal in the media & entertainment tax deal of the year.

Other multiple winners in the deal categories were Canada's Blake, Cassels & Graydon in energy and consumer products and Sullivan & Cromwell in M&A and private equity.

National tax and transfer pricing awards were presented for eight Latin American countries, Canada and six US cities. As well as the deal award winners, the leading firms in North and Latin America for transfer pricing, tax disputes and indirect tax were also selected.

During the summer of 2013, legal and tax advisory firms from Latin had the opportunity to make submissions of their best work. This information was verified and further researched by International Tax Review editorial staff before shortlists and winners were selected.

One hundred different firms were nominated for the 63 awards that were presented.

Deloitte led the way, winning nine awards, followed by PwC with seven, Taxand or Taxand member firms with five and Mayer Brown and Sullivan & Cromwell with four each.
