China’s State Council confirms expansion of VAT pilot

Seven months after Shanghai became China’s first city to roll out the country’s VAT pilot regime, the State Council has announced the program’s expansion to include 10 more cities and provinces.
The expansion will see VAT and business tax merged into a single tax, shifting the burden of taxation from businesses to consumers.
The trial will be expanded to Beijing, Tianjin, Shenzhen and Xiamen, as well as the provinces of Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian and Hubei from August 1 until the end of the year. More...
