Roberto passed the Philippine Bar exams and was certified as a Philippine lawyer in 1989 and completed his Master's degree in the US in June 1991. He started in the specialised field of Philippine taxation and corporate practice in January 1992, when he joined the then Philippine member firm of Arthur Andersen. In March 2003, he joined KPMG in the Philippines, now known as Manabat Sanagustin & Co. With more than 18 years experience in the field of taxation and corporate practice, Roberto has been managing and servicing various multinational companies across various industries.

Roberto has provided advice on tax-efficient corporate structures and assisted multinationals in the establishment of investment vehicles for their Philippine operations; assisted local and international clients in implementing corporate reorganisations and quasi-reorganisations.

Roberto has also successfully represented multinational clients in multi-million administrative and judicial processes against tax audits and/or on refund cases. Extensive exposure in assisting clients in administrative processes, including obtaining determinative rulings on various tax and corporate issues as well as M&A issues, tax exemptions or relief under the Tax Code and/or tax treaties.

Roberto has also been the engagement partner handling both local and global tax outsourcing for multinational companies for the past six years. The engagement team is also continuously acting as the Philippine tax agent for foreign government agencies.

Roberto is experienced in the power, semi-conductor, pharmaceuticals, trading and other sectors and is proficient in English and Filipino.
