CRA commissioner echoes OECD's zero tolerance and push for joint audits

Linda Lizotte-MacPherson, commissioner and chief executive officer of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) made an appeal to Canada's tax lawyers to exercise more responsibility at the Canadian Tax Foundation's 62nd annual tax conference (conference) in Vancouver on November 30 2010.

Tax practitioners in Canada knew Lizotte-MacPherson’s request was coming.

 She said that the CRA will apply a more aggressive approach in identifying “those who choose to ignore” responsible enforcement, Lizotte-MacPherson said. The CRA has zero tolerance for “international tax planning arrangements of people whose primary purpose is to avoid taxation,” Lizotte-MacPherson added.

 The commissioner said such practices completely disregard civic duty.
