The OECD's top tax official has dispelled the "myth" that tax havens were to blame for the financial crisis.
Speaking at the European Commission's annual tax forum in Brussels on Monday, Jeffrey Owens, director of the OECD's Centre on Tax Policy and Administration, called the claim that offshore centres caused the economic meltdown "absolute rubbish". He added, however, that the focus on tax havens will play an important role in the recovery process.
