Australia refuses to release Henry review
    Jack Grocott

Australia's assistant treasurer has told parliament that the government has no intention of releasing the Henry tax review report to the public any time soon.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Nick Sherry told politicians "a report of this size and magnitude requires extensive consideration".

Sherry continued by explaining that "releasing the review without an initial government response would only serve to unnecessarily cause public uncertainty".

The government received the report at the beginning of January.

"The government clearly thinks that the content is controversial and not in the public's interest," said Mark Goldsmith, tax partner at Deloitte, in Australia. "But to appease the tax community, little pieces of information will begin to be leaked to the public over the coming months."

The Henry review looked at reshaping Australia's tax system and included plans to cut the country's corporate tax rate.
